Demineralised Water Reverse Osmosis
MAK Water’s Demineralised Water Reverse Osmosis (DMRO) Plants are designed to treat fresh water, with < 1,000 mg/L of dissolved solids (TDS) and < 30 mg/L of suspended solids (TSS), to produce high purity demineralised water with TDS < 1 mg/L. The standard treatment process involves pre filtration (auto-backwashing multimedia filters and cartridge filters), anti-scalant dosing to prevent membrane scaling, two-pass RO desalination and a CIP system for membrane cleaning; with the inclusion of optional mixed bed ion exchange or continuous electro-deionization (CEDI), TDS < 0.1 mg/L can be achieved.
Additional pre-RO and post-RO treatment steps may be added as required to suit feed water conditions and/or treated water quality requirements. All MAK Water DMRO plants are available as skid mounted or containerised systems.

Demineralised Water for Boiler and Cooling Tower
Polyfoam Australia was having issues with corrosion, scale and constant blowdown required for their boiler. The cooling tower was also having issues from poor water quality and subsequent biological growth. This is resulting in high water usage and maintenance costs. Regular scheme water contains enough impurities to allow them to cycle up in the boilers and cooling towers causing corrosion, scale, high water usage and premature maintenance requirements. Reverse osmosis removes these impurities, preventing scale, reducing maintenance and extending the life of injection moulds. MAK Water were engaged to build a Demineralised Water Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant to provide high quality, demineralised, water to boiler and cooling tower.
Port Hedland, Western Australia

The power plant supplying power to one of Australia’s largest mining companies required demineralised water, with electrical conductivity of <1 µm/cm, for use in compressor washing, chilled water system makeup, and the fuel oil centrifuge. As the power plant was in an isolated remote location a robust solution to suit the harsh environment was required MAK Water was asked to provide a plant with client-specific engineering and documentation standards.
Hamersley Ranges, Western Australia

When Chevron started commissioning its Gorgon LNG gas train on Barrow Island off the north coast of Western Australia it needed additional demineralised water (high purity water) for pressure testing pipework, boiler feed water and other cleaning activities. Whilst this was a critical application requiring very high purity water (Electrical conductivity (EC) required of <1μS/cm at 25°C) it was only required for a relatively short period of time during commissioning and therefore it made sense to hire water treatment plants from MAK Water’s fleet of hire plants.

Demineralised Water for Resort Complex
When Crown Resorts wanted to reduce the maintenance costs of their kitchen equipment, they asked MAK Water to review the operation and propose a solution. Regular scheme water contains enough impurities to allow scale to build up in the steamers and dishwashers causing premature failure. Reverse osmosis removes these impurities, preventing scale and extending the life of steamers, glass washers and other kitchen equipment. MAK Water was engaged to build a Demineralised Water Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant to provide high quality, demineralised, water to the hotel’s kitchen.
Burswood, Western Australia

ExxonMobil’s site service upgrade to enable expansion at its Longford site required additional drinking water and demineralised water for boilers and chemical processes. The Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contractor, CB&I, pre-selected MAK Water as a preferred supplier due to its experience supplying similar projects previously. MAK Water became an integrated part of CB&I’s team in designing the project to meet ExxonMobil’s rigorous engineering standards and to ensure on-time delivery for this key part of the site infrastructure.

Demineralised Water for Cooling Tower and Reuse for Casino
A large hotel/casino on Queensland’s Gold Coast wanted to reduce its water costs and reduce its environmental impact. One of the most sustainable ways of doing this was to build a water treatment plant using reverse osmosis membranes to produce high quality demineralised water. The water treatment plant treats Class C effluent supplied by the local council’s effluent treatment plant and produce Class A+ water as defined in the Queensland Department of Health guidelines for use of recycled and non-drinking water the treated water is used in cooling towers and flushing toilets, saving money on potable water and minimising the impact on the environment.

What people are saying
I can confirm MAK Water’s RO plant has been working well offshore with a high availability and minimal amount of maintenance, and has supplied us with good quality demineralised water to complete our ongoing hydrotesting scope.
