Moving Bed Bioreactor Plus
MAK Water’s Moving Bed Bioreactor Plus (MBBR+) type packaged sewage treatment plants are designed to treat domestic strength sewage, to achieve “Class C” treated effluent, plus enhanced nutrient removal, suitable for reuse in “risk category low” applications or for discharge to environment. With the optional “Class A” upgrade, treated effluent suitable for reuse in “risk category medium” applications is achieved.
The standard treatment process includes influent screening, balance tank mixing, anoxic & aerobic treatment for nitrification and denitrification, clarification, effluent sterilization (chlorine tablets) and bag filtration (100 micron). The optional “Class A” upgrade includes an auto-backwashing aseptic glass media filter (5 micron), secondary chlorination via tank recirculation and residual trim hypochlorite dosing, and analyzers for online monitoring of treated effluent turbidity, free chlorine and pH.
MAK Water’s MBBR+ Bioreactors are corrosion resistant , and are self-contained, modular systems for easy deployment to remote locations.

Real-world examples
A mining camp in North Queensland needed to replace their existing sewage treatment plant as it was over 20 years old. MAK Water was engaged to provide a turnkey solution for the replacement plant including design, manufacture, onsite civils works, installation, commissioning, and operator training. MAK Water’s 20-year design life using FRP tanks for the sewage treatment plant was selected to provide a complete design, manufacture, and installation package for the replacement sewage treatment plant.
Queensland

Sulphate of Potash (SOP) was identified by Geoscience Australia as a critical mineral for the country’s future; however, prior to 2021, Australia was entirely dependent upon imported product. Australia’s first sulphate of potash (SOP) project, located in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, reached practical completion in July 2021, and will produce 245kt per annum. MAK Water was originally approached by the client’s engineering consultant to assist with equipment selection and pricing during the feasibility study phase. Once project finance was secured, the client engaged MAK Water directly to design, manufacture, install and commission the potable water treatment plant (PWTP) and sewage treatment plant (STP) to service the 350-room accommodation village.
